Peripheries 1

2-channel sound installation, field recordings and sound design, 58 minute loop. (Documentation portrays installation at The Yard City Hall gallery for the Depth Perception exhibition, curated by Morgan Everhart and Mel Reese), 2021

Sound can be a terrain where desire manifests – a whisper, the call of a bird or a snippet of song can all evoke a longing for distant people, times and places. In Peripheries 1, I blend field-recordings made in forests important to me with other elements to create an imaginary grove where strange and enchanted things flit and echo at the periphery of our hearing, deep in the woods. I’m interested in providing a source of comfort and whimsy for the folks who will spend their days working in offices near this installation piece at The Yard City Hall’s work-share facility – a bit of reprieve and mystery as the city settles into the cold of winter.
